Psychologist
6 E 39th St, Ste 1000, New York, NY
I'm Shayna, a postdoctoral clinician providing individual psychotherapy with a particular focus on relationships, interpersonal dynamics, and the ways our experiences shape how we connect with others. I work with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. My work also includes individuals navigating demanding careers, complex relationships, and important personal or professional decisions, helping them find greater clarity and fulfillment in their lives. I believe that many of the difficulties we experience, both individually and in our relationships, are shaped by patterns that can be difficult to recognize or change on our own. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, curious, and grounded in evidence-based psychological treatments. Together, we explore what may be contributing to these patterns and identify new ways of responding that support meaningful, lasting change. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Miami and completed my undergraduate studies at Columbia University. My research has focused on romantic relationships, couple functioning, and the ways our individual experiences and beliefs influence how we connect with and relate to others. My clinical training has included specialized work with couples, trauma, and a range of individual psychological concerns. I draw from insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, and integrative approaches, tailoring treatment to the unique needs and goals of each client. Above all, I strive to create an environment where clients feel comfortable speaking openly, exploring difficult questions, and working through personal challenges with honesty and curiosity. I believe that a genuine therapeutic relationship, built on trust and understanding, is essential to this process. My goal is for clients to feel understood and supported as they develop greater insight, navigate life's complexities, and approach their lives and relationships with greater

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want you to know that you don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Whether you're questioning parts of your identity, carrying the weight of past trauma, struggling in your relationships, or facing a big life change, you're welcome to come as you are. I'll meet you with curiosity and compassion, and I'll never push you to go faster than feels right. Therapy with me is a true partnership: you're the expert on your own life, and I'm here to help you explore it, make sense of what you're feeling, and discover what you want moving forward. My hope is that our sessions become a space where you feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to grow.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first sessions, I'll focus on getting to know you: what brings you in, what you're hoping will change, and the experiences that have shaped you. From there, we'll set goals together that reflect what matters most to you. I draw from approaches such as ACT, CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Internal Family Systems, and Existential Therapy, choosing what fits your needs rather than following a set formula. That might mean building skills to manage difficult emotions, gently processing painful memories, getting to know different parts of yourself, or exploring questions of meaning and identity. Along the way, we'll check in regularly about what's helping and what isn't, and adjust our work so it continues to serve you as your needs evolve.
