Dr. Chiffriller has been in private practice since 2006, counseling clients across the lifespan from preschoolers to retirees. Her theoretical orientation is effective with people diverse in physical ability, race, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation, and life circumstance. For five years prior, she worked in a group practice seeing accident and trauma survivors, helping them cope with physical disability, depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. While concurrently serving as a professor at Pace University, Dr. Chiffriller conducts research on topics including factors associated with happiness, understanding and preventing violence, and the mental and physical well-being of adolescents. She also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and prepares graduate students to become therapists. Her community service includes facilitating workshops for parents and children to raise awareness and help them find strategies for communicating compassionately. The goal is to provide alternatives to domineering, verbally, emotionally, or physically violent tactics to ?get what they want.? Dr. Chiffriller earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University in New York, where she also completed her bachelor's degree. Before her career as a psychologist, she worked in business management in Manhattan for eleven years. Sheila enjoys swimming, skiing, and watching movies with her five children.
