About Dr. Shelley Weinstock
I am a PhD nutritional biochemist and Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS). I specialize in conditions related to nutrition, including weight loss (including those on weight loss medications), diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, disordered eating, gastrointestinal issues, sports nutrition, and more. I use a very personalized functional and precision nutrition approach to your care. I help you set goals and meet them to improve your health. I take Aetna, United Healthcare, and Oxford. If your insurance is different, I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company. I cannot take Medicare but do accept some Medicaid plans. I am primarily doing telehealth appointments but can also schedule some in-person visits.
I earned my bachelor's degree from Bard College and completed my PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I am a member of the American Nutrition Association, New York Academy of Medicine, American Society of Nutrition, and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The Dr was very nice however I expressed how I need guidance with meal prep and what foods/ recipes would work but instead I received a response about portion size. I don’t have issues with portion control/size but I work a crazy schedule and needed help with life style changes. i.e. tool and tips/ticks for my super hectic schedule. I told her I work retail and my schedule changes frequently and I needed help with an actual plan and I received advice that I’ve gotten in the past from the internet/ personal trainers. She is a sweet doctor, just not the right fit for me.

I did not have the best experience with her, I felt she was less of an active listener and focused on end goals. Also she was quick to think about a worst case scenario which made me feel uncomfortable with facing my eating disorder. But, that may be my scenario and she may be specialized with other circumstances

Made an appointment for my teenage son who is looking to get healthier. Dr. Weinstock was friendly and informative and provided visuals to help solidify her advice. She spent a lengthy time with us and approached nutrition and weight loss from a very neutral, non-threatening position. I appreciate the emphasis on health, not weight. Hard to know if my son will stay motivated, but he's more cognizant now of his behaviors. We'll be taking it slow and checking in with Dr. Weinstock again.

I met the Dr via telehealth call and it was an amazing experience! I felt heard, understood, and she had so much additional information about my goals and issues ! I also appreciated that with the goals in mind she was able to start me off with small steps to set up long term wins and creating healthier habits. Past doctors are quick to be restrictive without always taking into account allergies etc. This was the opposite. she took EVERYTHING I said into consideration.

Dr. Weinstock helped me through a really difficult time in my life when I was struggling with an eating disorder. Through her guidance and education, I was able to recover confidently. Dr. Weinstock significantly changed and improved my relationship with food, something I didn’t even think was possible. Highly recommend.
