“This was my first time going to someone for anything psychiatry related and overall it ended up being a really great experience. She was very easy to talk to, thorough in walking through my history, and was able to give me a clear and understandable plan of action for next steps. I'd definitely recommend her, she made me feel very comfortable and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience, especially as someone who'd initially been feeling a little intimidated by the idea of getting this process started.”

Getting to know Shirley Remmers-Mesman

As a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in emergency nursing, I am deeply committed to providing integrative and holistic care. My practice is built on the foundation of treating the whole person, not just the symptoms, which means focusing on both mental and physical well-being. I earned my Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Walden University and hold a Master's in Nursing Education from Western Governors University. The struggle that patients experience dealing with anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and other disorders deserves attention, guidance, and treatment without the stigma often associated with mental health conditions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my practice, I integrate talk therapy with medication management as needed, complementing these with holistic approaches tailored to individual needs. My goal is to empower my patients, helping them achieve better mental health and an improved quality of life through focus on stabilization and building resilience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our initial meeting, I focus on getting to know who you are and what the reason was for reaching out. I will ask extensive questions about your medical, social, and psychiatric history, as well as medications you may or may not be taking. This initial comprehensive evaluation will help me understand what your needs are so that we can discuss expectations and an individualized treatment plan forward. Subsequent meetings will be geared towards monitoring your progress and making adjustments as necessary for continued optimal mental health and healing.
