About Dr. Siri Sastri

Born in Bangkok, Thailand, my parents moved to the United States when I was very young. The US has always been my homeland, with much of my childhood spent in Ohio and Illinois until we moved to Texas when I was 7 years old. From then until I joined the Air Force at the age of 26, Texas was home. I grew up in College Station, Texas where I graduated high school and then received an academic scholarship from Texas A&M University. In 1996, after graduating with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Spanish, I applied for a health professions scholarship with the US Air Force and was awarded a 4 year scholarship for medical school. After graduating from Baylor College of Medicine in 2000, I was accepted into a general surgery residency at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, MS. After 5 years of general surgery residency, I moved to Misawa, Japan to initiate paying my time off in the US Air Force. I owed 4 years due to the 4 year scholarship for medical school. I was in Misawa for 3 years, and this is where I began my journey as a full-fledged general surgeon. Due to being on a very remote military base in the most northern portion of Japan, I was required to live on base as I was the only general surgeon covering for the entire Misawa air base between 2005-2008. I served not only as a general surgeon on call 24-7, but also as chief of tumor board registry, morbidity and mortality board, and the contingency response team. During these 3 years, I sharpened my leadership and multitasking skills.
