About Dr. Socorro Montes
Dr. Socorro Gabriela Montes DPM, FACFAS is dedicated to providing the highest quality foot and ankle care to her patients. She believes in a patient centered approach where patients actively participate in their treatment. She is originally from Phoenix, but grew up in Houston, Texas and is proud alumnus of the University of Texas in San Antonio graduating with Bachelors of Science in 2008. She then earned her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago in 2013.
Dr. Montes completed her 3 year surgical residency at Loyola University Medical Center/ Edward Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital in Chicago where she served as a chief resident during her 3rd year. During her Foot and Ankle surgical residency, she worked as part of the Orthopedics, Infectious Disease and Vascular Surgery teams to better provide an extensive, multi-disciplinary medical approach to care for limb threatening illnesses. Additionally, the result of her training at a Level 1 Trauma Center during residency and her private practice experience in the west suburbs of Chicago, enhanced her experience in trauma, sports medicine, wound care, diabetic limb salvage, pediatrics, and bunion and hammertoe repair, plastic surgery techniques and all illnesses in forefoot, rear foot and ankle surgery. She treats both adult and pediatric population.
Dr. Montes is a Certified Foot Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. She is a member of Arizona Podiatric Medical Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association. She is also fluent in Spanish.
When she is not providing exceptional patient care, Dr. Montes enjoys yoga, Pilates, hiking, salsa dancing, photography, concerts and spending time and cooking for her family. She also enjoys traveling and trying new foods. She is very excited to be in AZ with Phoenix Foot & Ankle.

Montes is a great provider. She listened to my concerns and took the time to answer all of my questions, which I truly appreciated. Unfortunately, my experience with the office staff has been the opposite. They have been difficult and disrespectful to deal with over the phone, and both times I called were very unpleasant.
There has also been a clear lack of follow-through. At my initial visit before Thanksgiving, I was told the office would contact my insurance regarding orthopedic coverage within a week, but that never happened. At my follow-up appointment in December, I asked again and was given the same assurance, which again did not happen. When I called back later in December to check on the status and express my frustration, I was met with hostility from a male staff member. On both calls, the staff member hung up while I was saying goodbye.
While I really like Montes as a provider, the behavior of the office staff and repeated lack of follow-through make me hesitant to return.

I had a great experience with the my appointment. Staff was friendly and very helpful. I never found out if my insurance would cover my visit so hoping I'm not having to pay a very expensive bill down the road, overall it was very pleasant and would recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Montes and I did not "gel". I was asking questions and making statements that may have thrown her off. I feel she needs HUMILITY about what she knows, what she thinks she knows and what some patients know! She was drawing from her "textbook" knowledge and 10 years in the field. Not at all "warm" about it. Her grip on my foot spooked me enough to ask her to STOP. She was unable to complete the removal of my corns, but was able to get the calluses. To her credit, the type of shoe recommendations, caring for my corns and explanation about shoe design were very helpful. She is a bit "rigid" as a person for whatever reason. As for a "calming" grip on my feet, it failed. And, the knife could have been sharper?? The best Podiatrist for removal from a painful area had warm, "caring", "fat" hands with a soft grip that calmed me immediately. Too bad he is in Vermont!
