“Sofya has helped me navigate some very difficult relationship dynamics during a stressful time in my life. She supported me in slowing down, using reason, and better understanding my emotional reactions in a nonjudgmental space. She helped me recognize old patterns, find language for wounds I had difficulty naming, lessen my self-criticism, and look at myself and my relationships from a more open, compassionate, and grounded perspective. I reccomend her without hisitation!”

Getting to know Dr. Sofya Yedigarian

Hello! I am a psychologist who works with adults navigating identity development, life transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, and the lasting impact of difficult life experiences. Whether you're navigating a major life transition or simply feeling that something isn't quite working the way you'd like, therapy can offer a space to slow down, gain insight, and better understand longstanding patterns. Together, we work to better understand longstanding patterns, build self-compassion, and draw on your existing strengths as you navigate life’s challenges and create meaningful change. I am especially attuned to the complexities of intersecting identities and how they shape each person's experience. I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and those navigating identity-related concerns. I also have a particular commitment to working with clients from Middle Eastern/SWANA backgrounds, honoring the cultural nuances and intersecting identities that influence their experiences. I earned my Master of Science in Education in Mental Health Counseling and my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University. My training spans college counseling, outpatient therapy, community mental health, and hospital settings, giving me a broad foundation for supporting people through a wide range of emotional and life challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is warm, collaborative, and insight-oriented. I believe healing and growth happen when your unique story is seen, understood, and honored. Together, we'll explore the patterns that have shaped your experiences while building on your existing strengths to help you navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and self-compassion. I take an integrative approach, drawing from evidence-based techniques alongside relational, psychodynamic, and client-centered perspectives to meet your unique needs. Whether we're exploring how past experiences continue to influence the present or focusing on practical strategies for current challenges, my goal is to help you create meaningful, lasting change on your own terms.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. Whether we're exploring how past experiences and relationships continue to shape the present, developing tools to navigate current stressors, or making space to process emotions, our work is shaped by your unique needs and goals. While we keep your broader goals in mind, our sessions also leave room for whatever feels most present and meaningful that day. I view therapy as a collaborative process, and my goal is to help you deepen your understanding of yourself while creating meaningful, lasting change.
