Getting to know Dr. Sofya Yedigarian

Hello! I am a psychologist who works with concerns related to identity development, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the difficulties that stem from both everyday stress and deeper emotional wounds. Across all areas of focus, I strive to help people uncover their strength, resilience, and capacity for growth. I am especially attuned to the complexities of intersecting identities and how they shape each person’s experience. I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and those navigating identity-related concerns. I also have a particular commitment to working with clients from Middle Eastern/SWANA backgrounds, honoring the cultural nuances and layers of identity that shape their experiences. I earned my Master of Science in Education in Mental Health Counseling and my Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University. My clinical background spans college counseling, inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings, where I have supported individuals across the lifespan facing daily stressors, substance use, acute and complex trauma, and severe mental illness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My work is rooted in a culturally sensitive, queer-affirming perspective. I believe that healing and growth occur when your unique story is seen and honored. I take an integrative approach, drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities to best meet your needs. Whether we’re exploring how past experiences shape the present through psychodynamic insight, or fostering self-acceptance and personal growth through a client-centered lens, my goal is to help you move forward on your own terms.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Whether we work together to understand how past relationships impact your present dynamics, develop tools to cope with current stressors, or explore and process your emotions in a supportive space, therapy with me is not one size fits all. It is a co-created process that makes room for whatever you’re feeling, from pain to joy and everything in between. Our sessions are guided by what feels most present and meaningful to you, and our work will unfold organically from there. I view therapy as a collaborative process and would be honored to walk alongside you on your path to self-discovery.
