Marriage and Family Therapist
1811 W N Ave, Ste 402, Chicago, IL
Sophia Mohsen is a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. As a Lebanese-American, I have witnessed how culture, family, systemic influences, and intergenerational experiences can profoundly impact both individual well-being and relational dynamics. I believe that change does not occur in a vacuum nor in isolation. I knew I wanted to be an active part of someone’s growth, expansion, and enlightenment. These experiences inspired me to create a space where people feel seen, heard, and empowered in their stories. I am inspired by the words of Khalil Gibran, “Knowledge of the self is the mother of all knowledge. So it is incumbent on me to know myself, to know it completely, to know its minutiae, its characteristics, its subtleties, and its very atoms.” That pursuit, of knowing ourselves fully, is what drew me to this field, and it is what I hope to help every client move toward: a fuller, more honest relationship with who they are.

Getting to know Sophia Mohsen

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with couples and families navigating identity, trauma, and systemic factors in relational dynamics. My practice welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, including multiracial, ethnic, and religious identities, couples, families, and all forms of relationships (including friendships)! I am particularly interested in working with individuals and families through multigenerational trauma, anxiety, and ADHD. My goal is to help you find and trust your own voice, whether you are showing up for yourself or for the people you are closest to. I want every client and every family who works with me to leave our sessions feeling more understood, not just by me, but by each other and by themselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is collaborative, creative, and open to new ideas. I believe you already hold your own truth, and together we will explore your life experiences to build meaningful connections and deeper understanding. Through a culturally sensitive lens, I create space for real emotional vulnerability. My approach is integrative: emotion focused, goal oriented, and grounded in the context of your life, including your culture, your family, and your history. We will look at how past experiences may be showing up in your present, not to dwell there, but to understand yourself more fully and move forward with intention. At the heart of it, I want our work together to feel like a place where you can bring your whole self, questions, contradictions, and all, and be met with curiosity rather than judgment.
