I went to see Dr. Sreya Tarasila, twice now. She was great, friendly, paid attention to details, was listening to my concerns. Answered my questions and I came prepared with a lot of them! She's very patient and very knowledgeable. I just had a follow up appointment for the things we discussed during our initial skin screening. I would recommend seeing this dermatologist.

After seeing the reviews of Dr. Talasila I was genuinely excited to finally meet with a dermatologist about my Dermatillomania (or "Derm" which is a type of OCD that causes me to compulsively and excessively pick at dry skin, pimples, etc.), which I have dealt with for over 20 years. My hope was that, together with my therapist, Dr. Talasila could help me take steps to finally overcome this disorder. Instead, I walked out of her office feeling shamed. There was, believe it or not, too much to share here, so I have shortened my review to just a couple of key points. Though I should note that when I booked through ZocDoc, they canceled my appointment without notifying me. I had to wait for the next open slot. The appointment began as a lovely nurse with a great bedside manner chatted with me and asked questions and answered mine. She was friendly and informative. My mood was good and hopes were up. When Dr. Talasila came in, she was nice enough but as she asked me questions about why I had made an appointment, she quickly began acting as though she doubted the information I shared with her regarding my experience with my ailments - even suggesting I did not have them because they had never been officially diagnosed with anything (which I thought that is what I was seeing her for.) After the first item I brought up was rushed through, she moved on to my Derm. I told her my concerns and explained what I wanted to address. I shared my long history with the disorder and things I had done and am doing to fight it. My hope in seeing her was that she would bring a medical level of treatment in addition to what I had already been doing with my Therapist. Instead, she took on a condescending tone and shared that Derm is "Excoriation" (self-harm), and didn't listen when I told her I knew that. She went on to explain to me how pimples work and how skin reacts to them, then how scabs heal. As a person who has fought this pimple-picking disorder for over 20 years, I not only know all of this but I could write her a book about how my body handles Dermatillomania. I came to her because my body had started reacting differently, and for me that was the sign I needed more help. I wanted her to help me win my fight against Derm.  Instead, she spent several minutes explaining what I already knew to me and pointing out the areas on my body where it was the worst that she could see. Additionally, she never once asked about my skin care routine or produces I am currently using. The longer she talked the more I felt ashamed of my own body, of my failing struggle with my disorder, and of asking for help. When I asked about treatment, she said that we couldn't help my derm unless we treated my breakouts. I felt hopeful that she was going to prescribe medication to reduce the breakouts I have consistently had since age 10. She recommended Clean and Clear (yes, the one from Target). I didn't tell her it was one of the many things I have tried that had never worked for me. She hadn't listened to anything else I said - why would she start now? After that, anything I brought up (even scarring) was utterly untreatable (by the dermatologist?) until I could "get past" this. "This" being the disorder I have been battling for two decades. She instructed me to schedule an appointment in 6-8 weeks so that maybe my Derm will be cleared up by then and she can see if there is any validity to my concerns and experiences. I really wanted her help, but instead, I got her judgement and prescriptions for a dry scalp. TLDR; Dr. Talasila did not listen to me before she passed judgement on me and made up her mind about my ailments and treatment. She did not ask about my skin care or routines, and refused to believe that I know my body after living in it for 30 years. Do not see this Doctor until she learns the value of listening to and believing her patients.
