Zavala was born and raised in Stockton, California, She earned her Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree in Physiological Sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Zavala continued her medical education at University of Illinois College of Medicine and Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Zavala has over ten years of experience in general gastroenterology with special interest in women’s gastrointestinal issues such as constipation and abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and swallowing disorders. While on staff at Einstein Healthcare Network, Dr. Zavala was the Director of the GI motility laboratory, Associate Chairman of the Division of Gastroenterology and the Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Zavala has also penned several peer-reviewed publications.

This was my first visit to Dr. Zavala and she was great! She really listened to my concerns, asked a lot of questions, and clearly explained what she thought my problem might be and what tests she wants to perform to have a definitive diagnosis. She also had to perform a physical exam which can be very uncomfortable but she made me feel at ease and was very quick with it. I’d recommend her to anyone I know!
