Getting to know Stella Yufenyuy

Many people seeking mental health care want the same thing: to feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. I’m Stella Yufenyuy, DNP, PMHNP, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Before specializing in psychiatry, I spent 14 years working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as a bedside nurse. That experience deeply shaped the way I care for patients today. Working in critical care taught me how important it is to truly listen, support patients through difficult moments, and treat the whole person—not just a diagnosis. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I take time to understand your concerns and work with you to create a treatment plan that supports your mental health and overall well-being. I provide psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and ongoing mental health care for adults experiencing a range of conditions, including: • ADHD • Anxiety disorders • Depression and mood disorders • Bipolar disorder • PTSD and trauma-related disorders • Panic disorder • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) • Insomnia and sleep disorders • Stress and burnout • Adjustment disorders • Grief and life transitions • Late-life mental health concerns When appropriate, I collaborate with therapists and primary care providers to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care. My goal is to provide compassionate, thoughtful, respectful, and non-judgmental care that helps you move forward with clarity, stability, and confidence.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that my approach to care is supportive, respectful, and collaborative. I believe mental health treatment works best when patients feel comfortable speaking openly and know they are being heard without judgment. During our first visit, I take time to understand your concerns, your history, and what you hope to improve. Together, we develop a treatment plan that may include medication management, lifestyle strategies, and coordination with therapy when appropriate. Before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I spent 14 years working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). That experience taught me the importance of compassion, patience, and clear communication when helping people through difficult situations. I carry those same values into my psychiatric practice. My family background and life experiences have also shaped how I connect with patients. I understand that mental health is deeply influenced by culture, family, and personal experiences, and I strive to provide care that respects each patient’s unique story. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where we can work together toward better mental health and overall well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal is to help patients feel heard, supported, and guided toward a clear path to better mental health. When someone first comes to see me, the most important thing is that we take time to talk and understand what’s really going on. During our first visit, I’ll ask about what you’ve been experiencing, your mental health history, your medical history, and what you’re hoping to improve. This helps me understand the full picture of your life and what may be affecting your mental health. From there, we talk through treatment options together. This may include medication management, lifestyle strategies, or working alongside a therapist if that would be helpful. I believe patients should always understand their treatment plan and feel comfortable asking questions. In follow-up visits, we check in on how you’re doing, review progress, and make adjustments if needed. My focus is on working together with each client to find a clear path toward stability, balance, and improved well-being.
