Stephanie Couyoute, NP, APRN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
FL
I’m Dr. Stephanie Couyoute, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. My healthcare experience spans more than 15 years across a variety of settings, including critical care, trauma, medical-surgical care, and psychiatry. That background has taught me to look beyond symptoms and understand the person as a whole. I provide psychiatric care for adolescents ages 16 and older and adults. I believe patients deserve to feel heard, respected, and comfortable asking questions about their care. During your visit, I take time to understand what you have been experiencing, how it is affecting your daily life, and what you would like to see improve. From there, we work together on a plan that fits your individual needs and goals. Depending on your situation, care may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, supportive counseling, education, therapy recommendations, or referrals for additional services. I commonly work with patients experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood concerns, OCD, trauma-related symptoms, sleep difficulties, stress, burnout, grief, and major life changes. My goal is to help you better understand what you are experiencing and leave each visit with clear, realistic next steps. Treatment is not one-size-fits-all, and I value working collaboratively with each patient to find an approach that feels thoughtful, practical, and appropriate for their needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first visit is focused on getting to know you and understanding what has been going on. We’ll talk about your current symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, medications, daily functioning, stressors, and what you would like to improve. I also take time to answer questions and make sure you understand the different treatment options available. At the end of the evaluation, we’ll discuss my clinical impressions and work together on a plan that makes sense for your needs and goals. Depending on your situation, that may include medication management, supportive counseling, education, lifestyle recommendations, therapy referrals, additional evaluation, or a combination of approaches. Follow-up visits are used to check your progress, review how you are feeling and functioning, discuss any medication benefits or side effects, and make adjustments when appropriate. I want visits to feel collaborative rather than rushed, with enough time for you to ask questions and understand the reasoning behind your treatment plan. Mental health care is not one-size-fits-all, so your plan may evolve as we learn what works best for you.
