About Dr. Stephanie Purnell
Dr. Purnell is a board certified primary care physician and vasectomist focused on Reproductive Health & Family Planning. She is a published researcher and epidemiologist, as well as a fully licensed physician in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. Dr. Purnell aims to provide patients with evidence-based information to assist them with their medical decisions and to increase patient access to services that will empower them to achieve their health and wellness goals.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
After receiving her bachelor's degree (BA) from Cornell University, she earned her doctorate of medicine (MD) at Howard University and a master's degree in public health (MPH) at George Washington University. She'd developed an interest in genitourinary (GU) health during medical school which lead her to conduct research with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Mount Sinai Department of Urology prior to completing a year long internship in Urologic Surgery in Boston. Dr. Purnell then returned to the Mid-Atlantic to complete residency in Family and Community Medicine in Baltimore. That is where she realized her passion for reproductive justice which coupled with her interest in GU health, encouraged her to pursue a career in Reproductive Health.
FORMAL VASECTOMY TRAINING
Dr. Purnell completed the no scalpel, no needle vasectomy certification course offered by the Vasectomy and Reversal Centers of Florida with national vasectomy leader and urologist, Dr. Douglas Stein (see pictures on profile).

Our visit with Dr. Purnell, was unbelievable. With me having a vasectomy done back in 2008 my wife and I had lots of questions about getting a reverse vasectomy done. Dr. Purnell, explained everything from the good to bad with it been so long since having a vasectomy done. After weeks of communication we felt very comfortable with Dr. Purnell, doing the reverse vasectomy. My wife and I packed our bags and flew from Africa to the DMV area. Once we arrived Dr. Purnell made sure we was comfortable. Dr. Purnell, did a great job and I would tell anyone if you are thinking of getting a reverse vasectomy done, look no further Dr. Purnell is your doctor. We just received the semen analysis and all I can say is my wife and I have a big smile on our face and its because of Dr. Purnell. We would like to thank you Dr. Purnell, for all you have done and for giving us another chance to bring a blessing into this world.

I was very nervous about doing the vasectomy but Dr Purnell walk me through the process and made me feel comfortable with my decision of doing it. She is very professional & the facility is very clean which I like. After the procedure I was good to do & didn’t have to use ICE PACK like I have heard rumors about. I highly recommend Dr Purnell

She had availability within the week for our consultation and was able to do the surgery that Saturday for a very affordable price. Her consultation was thorough as she answered all our questions and even provided visuals for us to understand her method for the procedure. She took her time in surgery, provided the best and most compassionate post-op care, and has helped us on our path to fertility and growing our family.

Dr. Purnell was amazing from start to finish. Very professional and thorough from the initial consultation. Once I arrived, she made me and my wife feel like family. She made sure she walked me through the process and made me feel comfortable. The procedure itself was pretty painless and I was pleasantly surprised at the end. I was explained the vasectomy procedure before the surgery very clearly and any concern that I have is also addressed. Dr Purnell performed the surgery very professionally and I didn't any issue after the procedure.

Dr Purnell is a wonderful doctor. She answered all of my and my wife’s questions about the vasectomy procedure thoughtfully and was very thorough in her description. Dr. Prunell provided excellent medical service. The office was a calm and soothing environment with very friendly staff. Dr. Prunell talked through the procedure beforehand, reducing any and all anxiety. During the procedure, she made it her priority to ensure I didn’t have any discomfort. In addition, she was big on having conversations during the procedure to keep my mind off of the procedure itself. Even amongst the banter, she answered questions during the procedure that I may have forgotten to ask in the pre procedure screening.
After the procedure, Dr. Prunell had excellent follow up directly after the procedure via calls, emails, texts, with questions about pain, tenderness, care, additional prescriptions, and more. Also, she has been very accommodating with supplying additional information to submit to my insurance provider.
Overall, excellent service from Dr. Prunell and her staff. Would absolutely recommend to anyone for this service.

Dr. Purnell performed my “no scalpel” vasectomy. As you can imagine this is a sensitive procedure. After extensive research, Dr. Purnell was by far the physician and practice I felt most comfortable with and I was more than willing to travel a considerable distance to have her specifically perform the procedure. I was even able to have my procedure started early that day.
The office was clean and comfortable and the “off hour” times available for the procedure are appreciated and highly convenient. Dr. Purnell’s bedside manner has to be in the top 5% of any physician I’ve ever had (she’s so nice!) and her diligence before, during, and after the procedure are exemplary. I would highly recommend Dr. Purnell for anyone considering this procedure; you only do it once and Dr. Purnell is the physician I would unconditionally trust to do so!

I was highly nervous as any man could-woukd be, due to the Appt-procedure I went to Mrs Stephanie for, however she was AMAZING!! She put me at ease & made me feel comfortable and secure right away. When I had a thought or question to ask but wasn’t sure, Mrs Stephanie was very attentive to my facial expressions and would ask me if I had a question or concern at every step of the way which made the whole experience eazy peezy!

Dr.Purnell is phenomenal , she’s the best doctor I’ve had since I’ve started going to family medicine clinic in 2009. I started my prenatal visits with her in December of 2020 she was very caring , helpful and gentle. She made me feel very comfortable at every visit.
