About Dr. Stephen Hemperly
Dr. Stephen Hemperly is a board-certified dermatologist who treats a wide range of dermatologic conditions in patients of all ages. His examinations are both thorough and professional, allowing patients to feel comfortable and confident in his care. Dr. Hemperly has a warm bedside manner and invites patients to be active participants in their own health and medical decisions.
Dr. Hemperly is a member of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Osteopathic Association. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Pennsylvania State University. He then received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed his internship and dermatology residency with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Hemperly has a focus on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of skin cancer. He is trained in dermoscopy and utilizes this technique during every skin exam to assist in the early detection of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Dr. Hemperly’s career goals are to reduce preventable deaths from skin cancer and to improve the quality of life for patients with skin disorders through proper management.
When Dr. Hemperly is not treating patients, he enjoys playing acoustic guitar, playing racquetball, hiking, and spending time with his family. He moved to San Diego in 2016 to joint West Dermatology and is currently accepting new patients into his practice.
