Dr. Stephen H. Johnson is a board certified ophthalmologist whose expertise in small incision cataract surgery, intraocular lens implantation and refractive surgery is nationally and internationally recognized. After specializing in small incision surgery in 1979, Dr. Johnson has taught cataract surgery to eye surgeons all over the world. He has given hundreds of lectures, dozens of courses and demonstrated surgical techniques by performing live surgery in many different countries.
Dr. Johnson’s skills and contributions as a teacher and cataract/refractive surgeon have been recognized both nationally and locally. The American Academy of Ophthalmology gave him their Honor Award in 1991 and he was appointed to The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery's Scientific Advisory Board and Clinical Cataract Committee. He has also been elected and served as President of the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology and Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department of Hoag Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Johnson is an innovator and patent holder who has designed surgical instruments and intraocular lenses which carry his name. Dr. Johnson is an author who has written and published multiple papers in peer reviewed journals in addition to several text book chapters. He has served for decades as a reviewing editor for several peer review ophthalmology journals.
Dr. Johnson received his medical degree the University of Minnesota and his residency training in ophthalmology and internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester MN. After additional specialized training in cataract surgery and lens implantation, Dr. Johnson established his practice in Newport Beach CA in 1981.
