Getting to know Dr. Steven Demby

Welcome. I have been working as a therapist for many years and feel privileged to do this form of work. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, and professional space for therapeutic work and to facilitate a sense of comfort and acceptance. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University, Brooklyn, and have advanced training in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, along with experience teaching and supervising therapists-in-training. My training has helped me to listen deeply and empathically. I am an active and engaged participant in the therapeutic relationship. Many of the people I work with experience issues such as depression, anxiety, loss, low self-esteem, concerns about sexuality and gender identity, work and relationship problems, and issues related to retirement and aging. I have a particular interest in working with artists experiencing creative blocks and other difficulties associated with a life in the arts. I also address issues related to marriage, parenting, separation, and divorce. I will consider reduced fees when there are limited resources. I encourage you to call me for a free initial consultation and look forward to speaking with you. I do not participate with any insurance companies but am happy to provide a form for you to submit to your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits.
