Welcome! I'm Sunil Patel, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and founder of Luminary Psychiatry. I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for children (ages 6+), adolescents, adults, and older adults through comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, personalized medication management, and supportive psychotherapy.
I treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and other mood and behavioral concerns. I also have experience working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), helping manage associated emotional and behavioral challenges.
I believe that effective mental health care begins with listening. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you feel heard, respected, and actively involved in your treatment. Every treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs using evidence-based care and shared decision-making.

I offer in-person appointments in Hamilton and Short Hills, New Jersey, as well as secure telehealth visits for patients throughout New Jersey.

I take the time to understand your concerns, answer your questions, and develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your goals. My priority is to help you feel comfortable, informed, and supported throughout your mental health journey.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
We begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to understand your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals. Together, we develop an individualized treatment plan, which may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, lifestyle recommendations, and coordination with your other healthcare providers when appropriate. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring progress, adjusting treatment as needed, and supporting your long-term well-being.

I have a long history of mental illness. I can say Sunil is one the best providers I have worked with. He really takes the time to listen to me. He works with me on a medication plan that works. He is not something who just throws medication at the problem. I highly recommend him.

Dr Patel is very compassionate and is one of the very few psychiatrists who actually listens to you and tries to understand your issues instead of just prescribing medication. I am so very grateful to him and grateful that I found him. If you want a psychiatrist who is interested in both your medicinal needs but also who you are and what your life struggles are.
