Susan Augustine, PMHNP

Susan Augustine, PMHNP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CA
Susan is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner dedicated to helping patients better understand their mental health and work toward meaningful goals. She believes psychiatric care should be approachable, collaborative, and individualized, with patients feeling heard and involved in decisions about their treatment. Her passion for mental health care is also personal. As a parent, Susan experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating the mental health system while helping her own children receive appropriate care for ADHD, anxiety, and panic disorder. That experience gave her a greater appreciation for how overwhelming it can be to find the right provider and treatment. Susan’s path to health care wasn’t a straight one. After exploring several different careers, she ultimately found her calling in health care. One of the biggest influences on her decision to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner was seeing how difficult it could be for people to access psychiatric care, including the long waits many patients and families face just to see a provider. Today, Susan strives to provide the kind of care she would want for her own family: compassionate, accessible, honest, and practical. She wants patients to feel comfortable asking questions, understand their treatment options, and work together to develop a plan that fits their individual needs and goals. Outside of work, Susan enjoys hiking, art, discovering good Mexican food, and spending time with friends and family. She brings that same down-to-earth and personable approach to her work and believes patients don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Sometimes the first step is simply starting the conversation.
