What should a new client know about working with you?

Be informed when it comes to finding someone to work with in therapy or to talk about medication! A psychiatrist is a physician (MD or DO) required to attend four years of full-time medical school and four years of full-time residency with in-person supervision by experienced psychiatrists directly supervising (at least two doctors present with one patient!) much of the time. Other kinds of providers who may be able to prescribe medication are only required to have as much education as a second year medical student, and professionals who may advertise that they provide counseling or therapy may have had very brief education and little to no direct supervision in individual talk therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach regarding medication aims to be consistent with my ethics as a physician--to consider human rights and dignity, to do no harm, to make recommendations with your best interests in mind, to explore treatment options that feel consistent with your values. I also provide talk therapy for people who aren't interested in taking medication, or just aren't sure at the moment if they'd like to do so.
