About Susannah Okutoro-Ketter

I am a Certified Nurse Midwife with about 11 years of experience in full-scope midwifery, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, family planning, birth control, IUD and Nexplanon insertions, well-woman care, STD screening and treatment, and preconception care. I am also a Certified Emergency Nurse with 16 years of Emergency Nursing experience. I am passionate about providing culturally sensitive and respectful care to all patients. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, I spent my early years there before relocating to Liberia, where I graduated high school. My desire for midwifery was inspired by witnessing births attended by traditional birth attendants in Monrovia and fueled by the loss of a close family member during childbirth. To pursue this dream, I earned a Bachelor of Science from Lehman College, City University of New York, in 2003, and a Master's in Nurse-Midwifery from Columbia University in 2009. I moved from New York City to Minneapolis in 2015 to continue my midwifery career. I am married with four children, balancing roles as a full-time mother, wife, and part-time teacher to a high schooler, middle schooler, and two elementary schoolers. I believe in treating others as I want to be treated and approach patients holistically, engaging personally. Sometimes, this means I cry, laugh, or pray with patients when needed. Healing happens when we feel truly cared for and listened to. For leisure, I enjoy travel, exercise, and family activities. I also volunteer in the children's and health departments at my church. Most people describe me as very patient and a good listener.
