Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
VA
Hi, I’m Sydney. I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner seeing patients virtually across Virginia. I specialize in helping adults with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, binge eating, trauma, or those seeking general support for stress or life transitions. I also assess transgender and gender-diverse adults for gender-affirming medical and surgical treatment, and offer ADHD testing for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care — you’re not a diagnosis or a checklist. You’re a whole person, and I meet you as such. Our work together is collaborative. We’ll talk about what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s possible. I’ll always meet you where you are—whether that’s with medication support, psychoeducation, diagnostic clarity, or simply making space for you to process and be heard I blend the best of both Western medicine and Eastern healing traditions to create a treatment plan that’s as unique as you are. That might include prescription medications, herbal or plant-based options, lifestyle shifts, and talk therapy — all working together to support your healing and growth. I’m not anti-medication, but I am thoughtful about its use. If you're looking to reduce or simplify your medication regimen, I bring experience in safe, collaborative de-prescribing. We’ll work together to make choices that feel right for you — at your pace and on your terms. We may be a good fit if: ? You’re seeking treatment for Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Binge Eating, OCD, PTSD, or general life stress ? You want care from an LGBTQIA+ provider ? You’re interested in reducing medications and exploring holistic options ? You’re unsure about your diagnosis, have multiple diagnoses, or feel past ones missed the mark ? You are seeking an evaluation for ADHD. ? You’ve tried several psychiatric meds without success or are sensitive to medications

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a healthcare provider, I offer a deeply personal and inclusive approach to care. I’m a gay, ex-Mormon, single mom, and my journey has shaped how I show up in this work. Growing up gay in a conservative religious environment during the '90s and 2000s meant grappling early on with questions of identity, stigma, and self-acceptance. Later in life, after leaving the Mormon church, I sought out therapy for myself. That experience was transformative—not just personally, but professionally. Being on the client side of the therapeutic relationship taught me firsthand what it means to feel vulnerable, to build trust, and to experience authentic connection with a provider. These experiences are at the heart of my practice. I strive to create a space where all parts of you are welcome. I believe healing happens in relationship, and I bring both clinical expertise and lived experience to support you in that process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together is collaborative. We’ll talk about what’s working, what isn’t, and what’s possible. I’ll always meet you where you are—whether that’s with medication support, psychoeducation, diagnostic clarity, or simply making space for you to process and be heard What to Expect in Your First Visit ? Pre-visit review Before we meet, I’ll carefully review your completed questionnaire, which covers your psychiatric and medical history, current lifestyle habits, and treatment goals. ? 60-minute consultation In our first session, I’ll take time to truly listen to your story. I’ll ask clarifying questions to better understand your background, current concerns, and what you’re hoping to gain from treatment. Toward the end of the session, I’ll share my initial clinical impressions, possible diagnoses, and suggested areas of focus. Then together, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your needs and preferences. ? Optional lab work and testing We may order labs to better inform your care and optimize medication choices, if appropriate. We may also request records from past providers if needed. Ongoing Care & Follow-Up Follow-up appointments are tailored to your needs and may be scheduled anywhere from weekly to every three months. These sessions give us a chance to check in on what’s working, explore what needs adjustment, and continue refining your treatment plan for the best outcomes. We’ll also use this time to revisit your diagnosis if needed, and ensure that your care continues to reflect your evolving goals. Please note that medication changes or new prescriptions can only be made during scheduled appointments. If you feel your treatment plan needs to be updated, we’ll set up a time to meet and discuss next steps together.
