Getting to know Dr. Syed Tirmazi

Dr. Syed Tirmazi is a triple board-certified psychiatrist who provides consultations at his online clinic in New Jersey. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Quaid-e-Azam Medical College. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, followed by fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. During visits, Dr. Tirmazi thoroughly explains patients' conditions and helps them select an appropriate treatment plan based on a biopsychosocial assessment. He uses medications carefully and, as part of his online practice, generally does not prescribe stimulants like Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, or benzodiazepines such as Ativan, Xanax, and Klonopin. Dr. Tirmazi's clients trust his expertise because he consistently provides high-quality treatment and guidance, leading to positive and lasting health outcomes. He also strives to help the wider community receive the care they deserve. He holds board certifications in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My philosophy of patient management is based upon biopsychosocial assessment and treatment plan, adhering to the latest, up-to-date guidelines for diagnosis and treatment. I have specialized expertise in treating children and adolescents, backed by fellowship training from two renowned university hospital programs. I take a holistic approach to management, integrating psychiatry with nutritional strategies and mind-body interventions for a comprehensive treatment experience. I place a strong emphasis on the cautious use of medications when indicated, while also actively avoiding medications with a high potential for dependence. I do not do disability or forensic evaluations. I do not accept NJ Family Health/Medicaid.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initially, we will conduct a brief screening appointment/phone call to assess the compatibility of my services with your needs. This initial appointment/call does not constitute an initial evaluation or intake, and it does not establish a doctor-patient relationship. Its purpose is solely to determine whether proceeding with scheduling an initial intake appointment is appropriate for both parties involved. I do not do disability or forensic evaluations. I do not accept NJ Family Health/Medicaid. I generally do not prescribe stimulants like Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta or Benzodiazepines like Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin. If the initial screening appointment/call indicates that my service is suitable for your needs, we will proceed with scheduling an initial psychiatric evaluation for further assessment and management. Subsequent follow-up appointments will be scheduled as deemed appropriate. Please note that this service is not for individuals in crisis or emergency situations. If you or others are in any crisis or emergency, please dial 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.

Dr. Tiramazi is a great psychiatrist. I love that he does not overmedicate and tailors your medication to your individual needs. He is also very communicative/responsive and scheduling is flexible. I highly recommend!

Dr. Tirmazi is kind and sincere. I was in deep depression and anxiety on the day of my first appointment. Dr. Tirmazi was approachable and understanding. Other than giving me standard diagnosis and prescription, he also explained the treatment plan in details, and most importantly he was so kind that he gave me his phone number and told him I can just reach out to him if needed. For someone in that mental state, knowing that a medical professional can be always reachable and providing help means so much. Thank you Doctor!

Doctor Syed is very kind and a good listener and he asked all of the right questions to get to the root of the issue, and this helped me a great deal to understand what needed to be done to my medications in order to improve my condition and stabilize my mood. I think he is very professional and understanding of others.

Dr. Tirmazi is incredible, I booked an appointment after having a terrible experience at another practice, and it was honestly a breath of fresh air to talk with a provider who cared about me. He didn’t rush the appointment, made sure he explained everything clearly, and made sure I understood. My first appointment was a week ago, he went over my medications and added another that has already made a difference. I wish I had seen someone like him years ago. Book an appointment with him, I highly recommend! (Also he’s funny and easy to talk to)

I am dissatisfied with the appointment. I told him I am already diagnosed with ADHD and made this appointment to get medication. Although I got prescribed ADHD med that I am excited to try, I had to defend my existing diagnosis. He insisted i had a mood disorder but the doctor that diagnosed me ruled that out completely. My diagnosis took over a month, with hundreds of pages worth of data to support my diagnosis, so I know its accurate. I should not have to be put in a position to defend my diagnosis, its fact backed by data. it felt like he was trying to challenge my existing diagnosis as if they're wrong. I told him exactly what my ADHD symptoms were and how they were affecting me but he insisted it was a mood disorder. He made me do an hour long intake even after telling him i already have a formal diagnosis. I am now seeing a doc that is working with my existing diagnosis, not trying to diagnose me with with very limited information. very distressing experience.

Dr. Tirmazi is one of the most kind and caring providers I’ve had. He is extremely empathetic and understanding. I felt instantly comfortable speaking with him. He is very knowledgable and conservative with medication, which I appreciate. He truly takes the time to listen, which is rare. Thank you Dr. Tirmazi :)

Inappropriate questions. I had previously been diagnosed but apparently a whole new screening had to be done that seemed largely a waste of my time and his.

Very thorough! I scheduled a new patient telemed appointment for my daughter and the doctor called me within minutes to set everything up and get her information. Really nice person and I ended our conversation feeling very confident in his medical knowledge. She has her first official consult with him tomorrow and I am happy he will be able to help her.

Dr. Tirmazi was amazing and IS an amazing provider. Our televisit was a very lengthy one and he really displayed his compassion and care for me as a new patient of his. He took his time to thoroughly understand me and get as much information as possible to help with a great treatment plan for my mental illness. He was extremely thorough with his explanations to help me understand each possible medication that would help me. He went into details about side affects of medications, and the doses as well. We discussed about healthy habits as far as eating , sleeping , exercise, etc. He made me feel extremely comfortable and was very easy to communicate with. I feel very confident in my decision in picking him to be my provider for psychiatry and knows what the best options are for his current and future patients. I’m very happy with his services.
