Getting to know Tandi Mitchell

Ms. Tandi Mitchell, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner providing virtual care to adults throughout New York. Ms. Mitchell evaluates and treats anxiety and panic, depression and mood disorders, ADHD, trauma and PTSD, postpartum depression, insomnia, and adjustment to loss or change. Visits combine medication management with supportive psychotherapy, so patients are not repeating their history to two different providers. Ms. Mitchell came to psychiatry through nursing, and it shapes how she works: she wants to understand what a patient's days actually look like before deciding what, if anything, to change. She treats medication as one tool among several rather than the whole plan, and takes a holistic, trauma-informed approach to care. Ms. Mitchell believes that emotional wellness is shaped by many interconnected aspects of life, including personal experiences, relationships, and daily stressors. Her work emphasizes self-awareness, adaptability, and the development of tools that can help individuals navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and balance. Ms. Mitchell earned her master's degree in adult psychiatric nursing from Chamberlain University. First visits are a full psychiatric evaluation, with evening and weekend appointments available.

What should a new client know about working with you?

All visits are by video, and you must be physically in New York at the time of your appointment. Please join from a private, quiet space with your photo ID, insurance card, and a list of your current medications. Your first visit is a full psychiatric evaluation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Together we build a plan that may include medication, therapy-based strategies, or both. Follow-ups combine medication management with supportive therapy, usually every 2-4 weeks at first, then less often once things are stable. Patients on stimulants or other controlled medications are seen every 2 weeks.

Dr. Mitchell is one of the first providers I’ve had who made me feel genuinely heard. She takes her time, asks thoughtful questions, and doesn’t make you feel rushed or judged. I also appreciate that she explains medications and treatment options instead of just telling you what to do. I feel very comfortable talking to her and would definitely recommend her.
I’ve had a great experience with my psychiatrist Tandi Mitchell. She is professional, compassionate, and genuinely takes the time to listen and understand my concerns. I never feel rushed or dismissed during appointments, and she explains treatment options clearly while making sure I’m comfortable with the plan. She creates a welcoming, judgment-free environment that makes it easy to be open and honest. I really appreciate her patience, knowledge, and the level of care she provides. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a psychiatrist who truly listens and cares about her patients. She was also able to accommodate my last minute request before a school exam and give a notice to my professor, allowing me to have extra test-taking time due to my ADHD. Thanks Tandi!
Tandi has been incredibly kind, respectful, and never once made me feel judged. She takes the time to treat me as a whole person, not just my symptoms. I started seeing Tandi in March 2026, and my goal was to find the right medication, support, and management so I could reduce the symptoms that were keeping me from moving forward and truly live my best life. Over the past few months, I’ve seen a remarkable improvement. At my last appointment, I even realized I hadn’t mentioned the struggles that originally brought me to her in quite some time. Life’s challenges haven’t disappeared, but I no longer feel overwhelmed by them. I feel calmer, more capable, and better equipped to navigate them. I’m incredibly grateful for Tandi and the care she’s provided.
