Getting to know Dr. Tara Crown
I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and my medical degree from New York Medical College. I completed my psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where I was selected as Chief Resident. As an Active Duty Navy psychiatrist, I served as Medical Director of Acute Services at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center and Associate Program Director for the psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. I am board-certified and have experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry.
I take a calm, friendly, and collaborative approach to care. I listen thoughtfully and value open, direct communication. I believe patients should understand their diagnosis and treatment options, so I provide thorough explanations and psychoeducation to support informed decisions.
I begin by developing a thorough understanding of you as a whole person, including your history, current symptoms, concerns, and stressors. I take time to understand your priorities and work with you to identify treatment goals. Together, we consider available options and develop an individualized plan. I provide clear recommendations and welcome your questions and feedback throughout treatment.
