What should a new client know about working with you?

What you can expect when working with me is someone who is compassionate, curious and also direct about what evidence and clinical guidelines support. I'm comfortable exploring supplements, ordering genetic testing and considering talk therapy for those uncertain about medication recommendations. My hope and goal is that people leave my care, better than where they started. I work from a bio-psycho-social approach, so I'm interested to learn about your medical history and how that is impacting your psychological wellbeing along with the social environment that you are living in. It's all connected and at Haelen we give time to learn about you. People who work well with me are on the edge of their seat to get better - they are motivated to take in recommendations and explore options. Our initial intake is 90 minutes in length and people can expect that at the end of the visit, we may have a plan for obtaining labs, getting input from other specialists if needed and a discussion about a plan - whether that includes medications, supplements, therapy or other alternative treatments like TMS or Spravato. My role is to hear you out and share what the best evidence points to. After the initial intake, we will schedule a follow up appointment - either 30 minutes or 50 minutes in length to check in on how the recommendations worked out. Whether it's reviewing labs, looking at benefits to sleep, diet or movement or checkin in on any med side effects. Once people are 'dialed in' with their treatment plan - we can push our visits out to every three months and continue to work towards your long-term goals. If this interests you, please reach out and set up a an appointment today!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At Haelen, our initial intake is 90 minutes in length and depending on what is recommended, the provider may request a further visit to continue evluating, obtain labs, get further evaluation (for OCD, ADHD, anxiety, sleep, etc) and have the client come in for a 30 or 50 minute visit as a follow up. If medication is started, then the provider will follow up in 4 weeks at the latest. After medication changes, providers will follow up in four weeks and once medicaitons and the treatment plan is firmly established - in a good dosage range - they will adjust the follow up cadence to every three months.
