Getting to know Tara Thompson

If my career has taught me one thing, it is that mental health is complex and effective care comes from depth, perspective, and not oversimplifying something that was never simple. My journey started in psychotherapy after earning degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Eastern University. I worked as a therapist supporting people through anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Those early years taught me the value of real connection, good listening, and showing up like a human being, not a robot with a clipboard. Then I realized something, for many people, therapy alone isn’t enough. Some needed care that blended emotional insight and medical expertise, the kind that treats the brain, the body, and the nervous system as one big, interconnected team. So, in true overachiever fashion, I went back to school… again… to become a nurse. I went to nursing school at Drexel University and worked for many years in cardiology and neurology, an experience that ultimately led me back to psychiatry with better tools. That training and experience made something obvious. Mood is rarely just about neurotransmitters. Heart health, hormones, and stress physiology tend to have a lot to say. Spoiler alert..... the brain does not work alone. I went on to complete my Master of Science in Nursing and later my Doctor of Nursing Practice at Drexel University, where I perfected both advanced psychiatric care and the art of caffeine-based survival.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
