Tashaniyi Byrd, APRN

Tashaniyi Byrd, APRN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
MD
I meet people where they are, not where a textbook says they should be. My approach treats mental health as something connected to your whole life: sleep, nutrition, stress, and body chemistry, not just symptoms on a checklist. I combine careful medication management with labs, pharmacogenetic testing, and close collaboration with therapists, because real change rarely comes from treating one piece in isolation. That way of thinking comes partly from seven years in critical care nursing at Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland Shock Trauma, and Georgetown University Hospital, where you learn fast that you can't treat a symptom without understanding the whole system it's part of. Now, as a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I bring that same instinct to psychiatry. I work primarily with high performing professionals managing burnout, anxiety, depression, and ADHD, often people who've tried conventional psychiatric care and felt like something was still missing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You'll get a provider who meets you where you are, not where a protocol says you should be. I take a holistic view, which means we'll talk about sleep, stress, and labs alongside anything else that's part of the picture. I ask a lot of questions, and I expect you to ask them back. If something in your treatment plan doesn't make sense, we'll talk through it until it does. If you're looking for a fast prescription and a quick exit, that's probably not the fit here. If you want a provider who sees the whole person and adjusts to where you actually are, that's what I'm built for.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a thorough psychiatric evaluation, one that looks at your whole life, not just the symptoms you walked in with. From there we move into lab work when it's clinically indicated, since untreated thyroid, nutrient, or metabolic issues often masquerade as psychiatric symptoms. We land on a diagnosis and build a treatment plan together, one that reflects where you are right now, not a one size fits all template. Once we start treatment, we calibrate closely, adjusting medication and staying in touch more frequently in the early stages. As things stabilize, we shift into a maintenance rhythm, still checking in regularly, because "meeting you where you are" doesn't stop once you're doing better. It just means the visits change shape. I look forward to meeting you and I'm honored to be a part of your care.
