Dr. Taylor Washington, DNP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
4904 Professional Ct, Raleigh, NC
Hello! My name is Taylor Washington, DNP, PMHNP-BC, and I'm a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a passion for providing thoughtful, compassionate mental health care. I earned both my Master of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and my Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I also completed my bachelor's degree in Psychology. Throughout my career, I've worked with adults and older adults across a variety of outpatient and psychiatric settings, caring for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and other mental health concerns. My experience has shown me that no two people experience mental health in the same way, which is why I believe treatment should always be individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. What I enjoy most about this work is building genuine relationships with my patients. I believe people make the greatest progress when they feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care. My approach combines evidence-based medication management with psychotherapy, education, and practical strategies that support long-term wellbeing. Outside of work, I enjoy listening to audiobooks and podcasts, knitting, crocheting, staying active through regular exercise, and trying new restaurants and cuisines. Those interests help me stay balanced and remind me of the importance of finding joy and connection outside of work.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative, respectful, and centered around your individual goals. I believe the best treatment starts with listening. My priority is creating an environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences without fear of judgment. I take time to understand not only your symptoms, but also how they affect your daily life, relationships, work, and overall wellbeing. I value transparency throughout the treatment process. I'll explain my clinical impressions, discuss the reasoning behind recommendations, and make sure you understand your options so we can make decisions together. I also enjoy incorporating mindfulness practices when they're a good fit, helping patients build skills for managing stress, improving emotional regulation, and supporting their overall mental health. My goal is for every patient to feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first appointment is focused on getting to know you as a whole person. We'll spend time discussing your current concerns, psychiatric and medical history, previous treatment experiences, lifestyle, and the goals you have for your mental health. I believe taking a thorough assessment at the beginning helps us build a stronger foundation for treatment. From there, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan together. Depending on your needs, this may include medication management, psychotherapy recommendations, lifestyle changes, and mindfulness-based strategies that support your overall wellbeing. Follow-up appointments give us the opportunity to monitor progress, answer questions, make adjustments when needed, and continue refining your treatment plan. I view mental health care as an ongoing partnership, and my goal is to provide consistent support while helping you build lasting improvements in your quality of life.
