He went on to complete an internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, exploring numerous specialties, including internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, cardiology, emergency medicine, and general surgery. His next steps took him to an anesthesiology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. There he remained on staff as an anesthesiologist before completing a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of California, Davis.
