For most of my life I struggled with emotional eating, dating back to when I was a child. I ate whenever I was feeling sad, lonely, or frustrated. This continued to adulthood, where reacting to emotional triggers by eating caused me to be overweight and unhealthy. Although I had lost significant amounts of weight at many points in my life, I gained it back because I had not resolved the root cause of my eating, which was avoiding my feelings and reacting to triggers by overconsumption of food.
