Getting to know Tery Sexton

Same-week appointments available for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and PTSD (in-person and virtual). Tery P. Sexton, PMHNP, is a board-certified psychiatric provider with a background in ICU, emergency medicine, and military service. Tery provides clear, practical, and evidence-based care for adults navigating stress, burnout, and mental health challenges. Specializing in ADHD, anxiety, depression, and trauma/PTSD, Tery focuses on helping patients feel better quickly and safely. Most patients leave the first visit with a clear plan, realistic expectations, and next steps. Tery’s approach is collaborative, straightforward, and non-judgmental. Treatment plans are built around your real life, not just symptoms, and designed to support steady, lasting progress. Medication management is thoughtful and evidence-based, with close attention to effectiveness and side effects.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect a calm, supportive, and judgment-free space where you won’t feel rushed or talked down to. Many patients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or ADHD and my goal is to help you feel understood from the start. I take the time to understand what your day-to-day experience actually looks like, what has been working, and what has not. From there, we build a clear, practical plan together. I explain options in plain language so you know exactly what to expect. Most patients leave the first visit with a clear direction and next steps, whether that includes medication, therapy, or both. The focus is on helping you feel better as quickly and safely as possible, with steady progress over time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is structured, but it is always personalized to you, especially when we are working with depression and PTSD. We start with a thorough intake where I learn your full picture: what you are experiencing day to day, what you have been through, how your sleep and energy are, what triggers or patterns you have noticed, and what treatments you have already tried. I will also review safety concerns, substance use (if relevant), medical history, and any medications or supplements you are taking. From there, we build a clear plan together. That usually includes specific symptom goals (sleep, mood, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, motivation), a treatment approach that matches your preferences, and a realistic timeline for follow-up. If medication is part of your care, I explain the “why,” what to expect, and how we will monitor both benefits and side effects. Follow-ups are consistent and focused. We track what is changing, what is not, and what is getting in the way, then we adjust the plan based on your real-world response. I also strongly encourage collaboration with therapy when appropriate, and I coordinate with your therapist or care team (with your permission) so you are not carrying everything alone. The goal is steady progress with a plan that feels manageable so you feel supported, informed, and confident about the next step each time we meet.

More information on payments and coverage

At Bella Vida TMS, we work to make insurance and payments as clear and stress-free as possible. We are in-network with many major insurance plans, including Medicare and AHCCCS, and our team can help verify your benefits before treatment so you have a better understanding of your coverage, copays, deductibles, or any out-of-pocket responsibility. Some services may require prior authorization, and when needed, our team helps gather the necessary information and submit requests to your insurance company. Payments for patient responsibility, such as copays or balances not covered by insurance, are typically collected at the time of service or according to the billing policy discussed with you. We know mental health care can feel overwhelming, so our goal is to help you understand your options, answer your insurance questions, and support you in accessing care whenever possible.
