“Thao is the best psychiatrist I’ve ever had. (I’ve had two or three others, and all they did was act like a cold pharmacist or a mean cop.)
I first had the pleasure of meeting Thao when I had medi-cal, and therefore had pretty low expectations of who I would find as a psychiatrist. The fact that she was able to repeat back to me my problems in her own words really stood out to me and made me feel seen and heard. Though she is not a therapist, she is a fantastic & transparent communicator and is immensely knowledgeable yet humble about the medications she prescribes or wants you to try out.
Thao is an awesome listener who retains excellent judgment while still being receptive and open to your needs. I would highly recommend Thao for anyone who wants a psychiatrist who actually gets to know her patient’s mind as well as their heart because she ties everything together in ways I could easily understand and that I wouldn’t have been able to make sense of myself.
I feel lucky that Thao is still my psychiatrist after all these years (met her in 2017, had Kaiser *pukes* for a year and so had a horribly different psychiatrist, then I thankfully found Thao again when I switched to a PPO or HMO plan i cant remember which it was. Anyway, couldn’t say one bad thing about Thao, except maybe she takes too many notes and remembers stuff about myself that I’ve already forgotten— or maybe thats a good thing huh? :P”

Getting to know Thao P Tran
I am an ANCC Board Certified Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Although that wasn't always the case! After obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Mount Saint Mary's University (go Athenians!), I worked in the hospital on the Respiratory Unit until I took a leap into outpatient dermatology and medical aesthetics. It was during that time, talking with my clients, that I knew I wanted to have a more profound impact on helping others achieve improved mental and emotional health. I decided to go back to school and earn my Master's in Nursing from California State University, Long Beach. After graduating, I quit my job and moved out of Los Angeles to help a doctor open his medical aesthetic practice until I started my new career path. Since working as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I've had inpatient experience at skilled nursing facilities, caring for adults and mostly geriatric patients with dementia and/or severe chronic mental illness, and outpatient experience serving the underserved 18+ population with a wide variety of illnesses including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and PTSD. I believe it is best to pair my practice of medication management in collaboration with a therapist for the best treatment outcomes. I look forward to working with you soon!
