Timothy Tu, RN

Timothy Tu, RN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CA
I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked in inpatient psychiatry, psychiatric emergency care, trauma, and critical care. These experiences shaped my approach to treating each person as a whole and understanding how mental and physical health can affect one another. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other mood concerns. My approach is supportive, collaborative, and individualized. I take time to understand each patient's symptoms, life circumstances, and treatment goals before developing a plan together. When appropriate, I incorporate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, and motivational interviewing into care. My goal is to create a comfortable and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, respected, and involved in their treatment. I am fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you, your current concerns, and what you hope to improve. I take time to review your symptoms, mental health and medical history, medications, and daily life so we can build a treatment plan that fits your needs. My approach is collaborative and may include medication management along with supportive therapy, CBT techniques, or motivational interviewing when appropriate. I also like to check in regularly on what is working, what is not, and adjust the plan together.
