Psychologist
8060 Melrose Ave, Ste 200, Los Angeles, CA
I am a licensed psychologist (PSY34385) treating individuals in the Los Angeles area and throughout the state of California. I received my B.A. from the English Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. I earned both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the Counseling Psychology program at The University of Texas at Austin. I completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services, where I specialized in short-term, evidence-based treatments for students struggling with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and trauma. I then completed a year of postdoctoral work in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other third-wave cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) at the practice of Dr. Nikki Rubin in Los Angeles. I have provided clinical services in community mental health, suicide intervention and crisis counseling, school counseling, and university college counseling. I also received professional training in interpersonal therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and psychodynamic therapy. I have expertise in trauma-informed care, including clinical practice and research focusing on the neurobiology of trauma and effective interventions. I have conducted and published research on practical trauma-informed care practices for students and teachers in the classroom, and have extensive experience providing instruction in trauma-informed care to education professionals. I have authored and published peer-reviewed articles detailing findings from research exploring effective ways to support educators who have been affected by trauma. Outside of my work as a psychologist, I engage in nourishing pursuits like reading sci-fi novels, cooking and exploring the rich culinary delights of the greater Los Angeles area, and listening to music old and new.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I see many clients who feel stuck and unable to alter their life in a way that reflects their values, causing them to feel sad, on edge, or numb. They are suffering a great deal, and often their needs seem unclear. I use a frank and kind style to empower clients to find meaning and hope as they navigate the complicated, often oppressive systems of our world. This process is one of uncovering patterns—which may feel difficult to articulate at the beginning—restricting clients from fully experiencing life. Once their needs and goals become clear, I help them build and sustain a more flexible and expansive way of living and connecting.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The interventions I use to support clients draw from relational therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and behavioral therapy (ACT). I specialize in affirming care for the LGBTQ community, grief and loss, anxiety and panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), major life transitions and supporting survivors of trauma.
