Getting to know Trevor Cavness

Hi, I’m Trevor, I’m a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over three years of experience supporting clients across a range of mental health needs. I specialize in medication management for mood disorders, anxiety, and LGBTQ+ affirming care, with a particular focus on individuals navigating depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and complex relationship dynamics—including open and non-monogamous relationships. My approach is collaborative, client-centered, and grounded in evidence-based care. I aim to make treatment both effective and empowering by meeting clients where they are and helping them make informed decisions about their mental wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect a respectful, nonjudgmental environment where their concerns and experiences are taken seriously. During our initial evaluation, we’ll explore your mental health history, current symptoms, and past experiences with medication. I believe in shared decision-making, so any treatment plan we create will be informed by your goals, preferences, and comfort level. I always welcome questions about medication options, side effects, and alternatives—my role is to provide information and support so that you feel confident in the path we choose together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work begins with a comprehensive assessment, including your mental health history, medical background, and treatment goals. If psychiatric medication is appropriate, we’ll discuss the options thoroughly and make decisions collaboratively. Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring medication effectiveness, addressing side effects, and adjusting the plan as needed. I incorporate supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and lifestyle recommendations to provide holistic care. As treatment progresses, we’ll revisit your goals together and determine the right timeline for maintenance, adjustment, or tapering—based on what’s most supportive for you.
