Marriage and Family Therapist
TN
When you work with me, you’re stepping into a therapeutic space that is warm, human, psychologically precise, and deeply focused on restoring your sense of emotional safety, identity, and inner authority. I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 12+ years of experience, but more importantly, I’m someone who genuinely cares about seeing you heal, grow, and rise into the version of yourself you’ve always sensed was possible. Clients often tell me, “I feel like I can finally exhale here.” That’s intentional and by design. My approach is rooted in psychological science, behavioral finance, emotional intelligence, trauma-informed care, and relational systems theory. But it is expressed through compassion, clarity, and conversation that makes you feel understood without being judged, rushed, or made to feel like “just another appointment.” You will always feel a real person sitting across from you: thoughtful, present, intuitive, and dedicated. I believe therapy should give you more than insight — it should give you movement. Not just understanding — but transformation. Not just relief — but capacity. Not just coping — but clarity and confidence.

Getting to know Dr. Trillion Small

Not just coping — but clarity and confidence.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m gentle and direct. Warm and observant. Kind and deeply honest. I work with people who are ready to understand themselves on a deeper level. Many of my clients are high-achieving professionals, athletes, entrepreneurs, creatives, or individuals who have spent a long time being “the strong one” for others. They are often exhausted, overwhelmed, and carrying emotional burdens quietly...while performing strongly on the outside. When you sit with me, you don’t have to perform. You don’t have to impress me. And you definitely don’t have to have everything “figured out.” You just need to show up, however you are that day, and we work from there. I see the whole human: • the part of you that’s succeeding • the part that’s afraid • the part that’s tired • the part that’s hopeful • the part that’s still healing • and the part that wants more out of life but isn’t sure how to reach it My goal is to make sure that you don't feel reduced to your symptoms, history, mistakes, or struggles. I honor every dimension of who you are: body, mind, emotions, relationships, & identity. What you can expect emotionally: You can expect to feel seen quickly. You can expect to feel understood deeply. You can expect to feel safe enough to be honest...sometimes for the first time in years. And yes, you may cry. Many clients do. Not because therapy is painful, but because it’s rare to be in a space where integrity, honesty, compassion, and emotional clarity all coexist. You can also expect: • laughter — healing work includes joy • relief — your body will relax as you feel understood • insight — you’ll learn why you do what you do • empowerment — you’ll feel more in control of your life • accountability — I will challenge you with love • growth — real, noticeable growth Therapy with me is a journey of becoming whole: emotionally, mentally, and relationally. It is the restoration of your inner world so that you can navigate your outer world with strength, clarity, peace, and confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I blend a unique set of tools to create a holistic and highly personalized therapeutic experience: 1. Emotion-Focused + Trauma-Informed I help you understand your emotional patterns, why they developed, and how to transform them without shame. We slow down enough to make sense of what feels overwhelming while giving your nervous system the support it needs. 2. Narrative + Identity-Based Work Your story matters. Your identity matters. Your lived experiences matter. We explore how your past shaped you. Not to stay stuck there, but to help you rewrite the internal “scripts” that are running your decisions, relationships, and self-beliefs. 3. Behavioral, Cognitive, and Somatic Techniques I help you connect the dots between your thoughts, your emotions, your body, and your behaviors. You will learn practical skills that help you calm anxiety, regulate stress, build confidence, and navigate life with more clarity and stability. 4. Systems + Relational Approach We also examine your relationships : the people you love, the environments you navigate, and the systems around you. Your healing does not happen in isolation, so we don’t treat it that way. I help you build healthier boundaries, communication, and relational patterns. 5. High-Performance + Mental Conditioning Because I also work extensively with athletes, executives, and founders, I understand the intense pressure that comes with excellence. If you’re navigating burnout, imposter syndrome, self-sabotage, anxiety around achievement, or the emotional “cost” of success, this is work we do very well together. 6. Faith-Affirming (if you desire it) I never impose spirituality. But if faith matters to you, it matters in our work. I am comfortable incorporating scripture, prayer, identity in God, and the deeper spiritual meaning behind a person’s healing journey-only when the client requests it.
