About Dr. Tsai-lung Tsai
As a boy dreaming of becoming a mechanic, I tried (unsuccessfully) to fix my bicycle with my father's hammer and screwdrivers. When I finally owned a car, it was an old junk that I could tinker with on weekends. Only after graduating from UNE College of Osteopathic Medicine with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree did I realize that becoming a health care provider was the best way to encompass my passion, vision, and skills given the opportunities I have been blessed with. My training included an internship at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, a residency in General Surgery at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, and a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand & Microsurgery. It feels like a natural progression to transform that childhood dream into an even more meaningful life path.
Hand Surgery is a specialty that fascinates me because it encompasses neurosurgery, plastic, orthopedic, vascular, and microsurgery techniques, covering just about every problem from A to Z. It is intricate and challenging, and there is always something different every day! As a clarinet musician, I have a very intimate relationship with and appreciation for hand function, and that fascination has inspired my career in hand surgery.
I connect with my patients by treating them as if they were my own family members-giving personal attention, taking time to listen, discuss, and explain treatment plans thoroughly. I have always made myself available and tell my patients that I am only one phone call or email away.
Outside the office, I am an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying downhill skiing and road cycling. I also love creative and fun times traveling and restoring classic cars.
My advice for patients is simple: stay active!

Bedside manner could use some work. Provider belittled my pain level and told me pain is what happens when you get old.

I would not recommend this Dr. who came across as a bit cold, short, and arrogant. I presented with a ganglion cyst on my right wrist. He told me that he would not aspirate it as I requested, he said that he was the expert ,and suggested that I have a surgically removed in the OR to prevent infection and the Dr. who had aspirated it in the past ( more than 6 years ago) was wrong in doing so. Both remedies could potentially open me up for infection and could both potentially not solve the problem. His follow up notes were inaccurate. He did not physically examine my wrist, yet notated the range of motion by degrees and said that my grip strength was normal which it is not. He did not Touch my wrist, flex my wrist, or get an x-ray of my wrist all which is stated in my follow up notes that the x-ray was reviewed and interpreted. He also notated that I continue my current pain medication and not to exceed the daily maximum dose……This was never discussed. I left the office with the mindset that he would not touch it. He may be a great doctor, and the expert in his field, all I know is I have had this cyst aspirated twice over the past 20 years. It was no big deal and fixed within minutes during an office visit with a needle. I didn't have to waste thousands of dollars to get cut open in an OR.

I understand everybody has a bad day, and I'm attributing this to his attitude on my first visit. I also understand that not everybody has the best "bedside manner" and he could be a brilliant surgeon which is something that is valuable. Fortunately, I don't need surgery, so cannot speak to this. I also understand that places like Crystal Run pile on patients for the physicians to make money and as a result, the physicians are under a lot of pressure and have numerous people scheduled back to back. I frankly blame the organization for this, not the doctor. It felt as though there was a quota of people he had to meet with based on the limited amount of time I received during my first visit.

I arrived at my appointment cheerful and hopeful that Dr.Tsai would help me with inflammation in my fingers and help alleviate my pain. Instead, I was compared to an old tire with worn out treads and told there was no solution for pain or increased agility.
I left feeling old, depressed and discarded.
