Ugoeze Onyekelu-Eze, NP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NY
Mental health is not simply the absence of illness. It is the presence of clarity, resilience, and the capacity to thrive. That belief drives everything I do. My path to psychiatric care began in the emergency department, where I learned to read the human body under pressure and recognize how quickly a life can unravel, and how quickly it can be turned around with the right intervention. That urgency never left me. It simply evolved. With a master’s in urban affairs, I spent years studying the systems that shape human wellbeing long before a patient ever walks into a clinical setting: housing, community, stress, access. That lens informs how I see every person I work with: not as a diagnosis, but as a whole human being navigating a complex world. Today, as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and doctoral candidate, I specialize in evidence-based psychiatric care alongside a precision bio-optimization practice focused on sleep architecture, hormonal health, peptide consultation and cognitive performance. I work with clients who want more than symptom management. They want to understand themselves, and to perform at their highest level in every area of life. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, or a psychiatric transition, or you’re seeking to optimize your mental edge, my practice meets you where you are, with rigorous science, genuine curiosity, and deep respect for the complexity of being human.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is grounded in clinical rigor and precision. Every evaluation starts with listening closely, then building a clear diagnostic picture before any medication decision is made. I work across two pathways: traditional evidence-based psychiatric care for diagnosis and medication management, and a private-pay performance psychiatry track for those who want to go further, incorporating biomarker data and metabolic health into the picture. Whichever pathway fits, sessions are collaborative and direct. My goal isn't just symptom relief; it's helping you understand what's driving how you feel and function, so we can build a plan with a clear rationale behind it. Every new client begins with a free 15-minute consultation, a chance to talk through what's bringing you in before we schedule anything further.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every relationship starts with a free 15-minute consultation, a conversation about what's bringing you in and whether we're a good fit before anything else is scheduled. From there, your first full appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation: a thorough history, a structured diagnostic process, and time to understand the full picture before any medication decision is made. Follow-up visits are shorter and focused, tracking response to treatment and adjusting the plan as needed. My core focus is medication management and psychopharmacology, though I do take on a limited number of talk therapy clients as well. For clients pursuing the performance psychiatry pathway, visits also incorporate biomarker data and metabolic health alongside the psychiatric picture. Every step is evidence-grounded, and nothing moves forward without a clear rationale behind it.

More information on payments and coverage

I work across two pathways. Clinical psychiatric care, including evaluations and medication management, is billed through insurance for paneled plans, with transparent private-pay rates available as well. Performance psychiatry and bio-optimization services are private-pay only, and a superbill is provided so you can seek reimbursement from your own insurance if your plan allows for out-of-network care. Every new client begins with a free 15-minute consultation to talk through what's bringing you in and determine the right pathway before anything is scheduled or billed.
