“Dr Iroku Ugonna is kind, compassionate and thorough. He didn’t dismiss any of my concerns and it ended up being a possible life saving situation. Great staff, especially at the procedure clinic Liberty Endo on 156 William street. Saw me before and after procedure and went through everything explaining clearly and in a way a non medically trained person could understand. Apart from a little mix up with insurance and the colon prep needed I would highly recommend him and his team! Will definitely be using him again. Thank you for being a great listener and communicator. So rare these days! How medicine should be practiced always!”

About Dr. Ugonna Iroku
Ugonna Iroku, MD, is a gastroenterologist specializing in managing a broad range of digestive conditions, including screening for colorectal polyps and cancers, esophageal and gastric cancers, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding, bowel habit changes like diarrhea or constipation, and inflammatory bowel disease. He provides state-of-the-art colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and oversees various screening and treatment methods to reduce digestive disease risks.
Dr. Iroku has a special interest in colorectal cancer screening, especially in early-onset cases, and offers comprehensive hemorrhoid management through dietary, prescription, and office procedures.
He emphasizes that patient visits should provide prompt attention, warm and caring staff, and durable treatment results. ?My philosophy is that patient care must demonstrate empathy, excellence, and be collaborative,? he says. He earned his Bachelor's degree from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, his Doctor of Medicine from Harvard University, completed his Internal Medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center, and his Gastroenterology fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Medical Center.
Outside of work, he enjoys reading non-fiction, traveling, community service, spending time with family and friends, and supporting Chelsea Football Club. He is passionate about raising colorectal cancer awareness and risk reduction strategies. Dr. Iroku co-founded the Association of Black Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists to address health inequalities in the Black community.
