About Dr. Vanessa Allen
Dr. Vanessa Allen received her medical degree from Howard University, College of Medicine in 1989 and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina.
After completing her residency in 1993, she developed a successful private group practice in Ft. Washington, Maryland before starting her own practice in Bowie, Maryland.
In her search for knowledge, Dr. Allen has moved beyond her training in traditional allopathic medicine to embrace integrative and alternative medicine.
She has continued her education in complementary and integrative medicine by completing course work with the University of Arizona department of Integrative Medicine chaired by Dr. Weil, and has studied and mentored with Dr. Akmal Muwwakkil who specializes in herbal and Chinese medicine. She has completed her studies in acupuncture at UCLA, Helms Institute, the leading center for physician training in acupuncture.
Dr. Allen has developed unique and individualized programs for weight loss that successfully assist patients in meeting their weight loss goals. In addition, she has experience with individualized treatment with bio-identical hormones for women’s health and anti-ageing. Dr. Allen believes in patient centered care and addresses healthy lifestyle issues focusing on nutrition, physical activity, mind-body approaches and spirituality. Her goal is to promote wellness and disease prevention that enables patients to increase control over and improve their health care.
