About Dr. Vanessa Chen
Dr. Vanessa Chen earned her undergraduate degree in biology from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She completed her residency in the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Sugar Land, her hometown.
Dr. Chen, who is board certified in family medicine, speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese and treats patients ages 5 and older. She sees patients for a broad spectrum of conditions, including allergies, mental health, wellness and well-child visits, as well as chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Her special clinical interests include preventive medicine and women’s health. She is trained in intrauterine device (IUD) and etonogestrel placement.
Dr. Chen chose medicine as a career because she was drawn to the human side of the profession. Seeing the many roles that a physician can play for patients, she wanted to fill those roles for her patients and support them through all stages of life. Her patients, she hopes, will see her as kind, compassionate, collaborative and thorough.
She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Texas Academy of Family Physicians.
In her leisure time, Dr. Chen enjoys watching Korean drama, crafting, traveling and spending time with her family and corgis.

This was my first visit with Dr. Chen, and I was extremely impressed. Dr. Chen showed genuine care from start to finish. She took the time to thoroughly understand my health concerns, asking detailed questions and making sure she had the full picture before recommending anything. She was considerate of my time, patient throughout the appointment, and explained her medical reasoning and treatment plan in a way that was both patient-centered and practical. Dr. Chen is the sweetest! She’s so patient and gentle throughout the whole appointment and she makes sure she hears your concerns. She’s also great at girls-plaining the medical terminology and goes through everything with you to make sure you fully understand your body before the end of your appointment. Would highly recommend!

Dr. was kind of cold in her questioning and feedback. She was also in a rush and I had to stop her halfway out to ask my questions. I didn’t feel comfortable or reassured during my appointment so I will likely not be returning.

Dr. Chen and her PA Maria made sure that my visit went perfect. They made sure I was aware they were working with a new system and patiently went through all of my concerns with me. Their listening and compassion were 10/10. As an autistic adult who has had some pretty coarse interactions with medical professionals, Dr. Chen and Maria were an incredibly kind and communicative. The phlebotomist, Meilin, was phenomenal with keeping me calm and letting me sit for a bit after doing my blood draw.

Dr. Chen and her PA Maria were incredibly kind and listened closely when I spoke. It has been a rare occurrence for me as a low support needs autistic person to feel comfortable in any medical environment. Even the phlebotomist was kind when I stated I needed a moment after my blood draw to sit.
