About Dr. Vasudev Mandyam

I am a board-certified general internist and currently a primary care physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Diego, and completed my internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center. I have been practicing at BIDMC for almost nine years. As detailed below, I have a passion for academic medicine, including teaching and clinical work. My outpatient clinical practice includes a focus on addiction medicine, with a primary role in our OBAT clinic providing team-based care to patients with substance use disorders. I also serve as co-chair of our practice's Chronic Pain and Addiction Committee, which oversees patients on chronic opioids and offers support, education, and guidance to providers; over the years, this committee has developed guidance around medical marijuana as well. I have a teaching role within our practice. Since starting my position, I have been a preceptor in the weekly resident continuity clinic and am one of the educators in the resident ambulatory curriculum, specifically on behavioral health topics such as mental health and substance use. A major outside role of mine has been serving as the medical director and supervising physician for the Student Health Services clinic at Emmanuel College, a private Catholic university in Boston. I work closely with the nurse practitioners who see students in the clinic and am involved in clinical care, public health, and administrative responsibilities for the college. Since Spring 2019, I have also been moonlighting at the detox facility at Dimock Health Center, where I am responsible for new admissions to the treatment facility.
