Veronica Cook, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
PA
Hi, I'm Veronica — a dual board-certified nurse practitioner in family medicine and psychiatric mental health (FNP-C, PMHNP-BC), with over 10 years of experience across ICU, trauma, oncology, hospital medicine, and psychiatry. I still work as a Hospitalist today, and that background is exactly why I look at the whole person, not just a diagnosis. I built You Belong Integrative Mental Wellness for clients from multicultural and LGBTQIA+ communities, fellow healthcare workers, and anyone who has felt unheard, dismissed, or rushed by a provider before — no code-switching required, ever. I offer virtual psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adults.

Getting to know Veronica Cook

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm not going to nod along, glance at a checklist, and rush you out the door. Your first visit is an actual conversation — I want to know about your sleep, your stress, your physical health, your whole situation, not just whatever symptom got you here. Show up as you are. I promise nothing you say is going to shock me. Visits are virtual. First one runs 60-75 minutes depending on what we're working with. After that, we check in every few weeks, talk through what's working, and adjust — I'll tell you my actual reasoning, not just hand you a script and a wave goodbye. Real talk: this is medication management, not weekly therapy. But it's not a robotic 10-minute check-in either. If you want a therapist in the mix too, I'll help you find one! I am a big advocate for therapy. Bring yourself, no code switching.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A session with me starts with you talking, not me running down a checklist waiting for yes-or-no answers. Tell me what's going on, when it started, what a bad day actually looks like. I'll ask about what you've already tried too, but I'd rather hear it in your own words than watch you tick boxes on an intake form. The more you actually tell me, the more accurately I can figure out what's going on instead of guessing off three symptoms. Yes, somewhere in there I'm forming a diagnosis, or weighing a few possibilities against each other — that matters, it's how I figure out what's actually going to help. But you're not "the bipolar guy who comes in on Tuesdays," and you're not a diagnosis. You're a human. The diagnosis is just my shorthand for how to help you, not a description of who you are. On talk therapy: I'm not running 50-minute weekly sessions, but I'm also not doing a five-minute pill check and sending you back out the door either. We actually talk. If medication's the right call, we'll get there together. If what you need is more than that, weekly therapy alongside what I'm doing, I'll help you find someone. Either way, you're not leaving with just a diagnosis and a handshake. We're working on this together.
