Dr. William Sterling, MD

Dr. William Sterling, MD

Forensic Psychiatrist
61 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, NY
As your psychiatrist, I work hard to understand the history and circumstances that have led you to seek help. Accurate diagnosis is important, but many issues we face are not captured by diagnosis alone. I aim to create a treatment plan that suits your unique needs. Using psychotherapy and medication, I treat mood disorders (such as depression or bipolar), anxiety disorders, attention-deficit disorder/attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder, personality disorders, trauma-related disorders, sleep disorders, and psychotic illnesses. My approach is inviting and curious, and I value humor and candor in a therapeutic relationship. I completed medical school at SUNY Downstate College Of Medicine and residency at Zucker-Hillside Hospital (part of the Northwell Health system, and affiliated with the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University). I completed an additional fellowship in forensic psychiatry at New York University. My practice has been open since 2021. I am licensed in New York state. Outside of my private practice, I work as a forensic evaluator for the New York State Office Of Mental Health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice is currently focused on medication management, though I structure sessions with enough time and attention to include psychotherapeutic techniques in our work together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

If we work together, we will begin with an intake session so I can understand your history, your current problems, and begin to elucidate a diagnosis. We will spend time talking about what that means and what treatments I think will be useful going forward. Once we have a treatment plan in place, we will meet to discuss your progress and to address any new issues we encounter along the way.
