Dr. Yael Mansoor, PhD

Neuropsychologist
DC
Sometimes the hardest struggles are the ones that don’t fit neatly into a single diagnosis. You may be dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or the effects of trauma, and find that the usual advice to “manage your symptoms” doesn’t quite get at what is actually going on. I specialize in working with adults with complex trauma presentations, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and longstanding emotional or relational patterns that have been difficult to change. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you understand how your experiences, emotions, relationships, nervous system, and ways of coping fit together - and use that understanding to create meaningful change. As a clinical psychologist with more than 18 years of training and experience, including a background in neuropsychology and rehabilitation, I bring both depth and a broad clinical perspective to therapy. I use an integrative, evidence-based approach drawing from ACT, CBT, IFS and parts-oriented work, attachment-based therapy, mindfulness, somatic approaches, and psychodynamic therapy. Therapy with me is collaborative, thoughtful, and active. We will look closely at the patterns that keep showing up, understand how they developed, and work toward greater flexibility, self-understanding, and choice in how you respond. You do not need to arrive with a perfectly defined problem or know exactly what kind of therapy you need. Complex problems deserve thoughtful treatment, and we can begin by making sense of the bigger picture together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is warm, curious, and active. I’m interested not only in what you’re struggling with, but in why it makes sense that your mind learned to respond this way in the first place. With complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and ADHD, there is rarely just one thing going on—and I’m comfortable with that complexity. We may explore your history and relationships, pay attention to what is happening in your body and nervous system, or look closely at patterns unfolding in your life right now. I draw from evidence-based and depth-oriented approaches, but therapy with me is not about squeezing you into a particular model. We’ll use what helps us understand you better and move toward meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me is a conversation with a purpose. We might begin with something that happened this week and find ourselves connecting it to a relationship pattern, an earlier experience, the way your nervous system responds under stress, or the story you’ve learned to tell yourself about who you are. I’ll ask questions, share what I’m noticing, and help us slow down when something deserves a closer look. At times we may focus on practical strategies for anxiety, depression, or ADHD; at others, we may do deeper work around trauma, attachment, or longstanding patterns. You won’t be expected to fill 50 minutes on your own, I’m an active participant in the process, and we’ll work together to understand not just what is happening, but what might actually help.

More information on payments and coverage

Eckhouse Therapy is an out-of-network practice, which means payment is made directly at the time of service rather than billed to insurance. If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement from your insurance company. We can provide a superbill with the information needed to submit a claim for reimbursement. Because benefits vary considerably by plan, I recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your specific out-of-network deductible and reimbursement rate.
