Getting to know Young Tae Lee

Welcome! I'm Young Lee, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care through my personal practice. As a former varsity soccer player and veteran Army sergeant, I bring discipline, resilience, and leadership to every patient interaction. I earned my BSN from Duke University, where I received the Helen Fuld Scholarship, and completed my MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health from Charles R. Drew University. With experience spanning inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, and telehealth settings, I treat a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, PTSD, OCD, schizophrenia, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders. My clinical foundation includes psychiatric nursing in adult psych, geropsychiatry, crisis stabilization, and hospital consultation across ICU, ER, and medical units — giving me a well-rounded perspective on complex presentations. My approach combines thorough assessments with personalized treatment plans that may include medication management, CBT, solution-focused therapy, and holistic strategies. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and supported. I have also co-authored research presented at a national conference and participated in a national BLS research study at Duke University, reflecting my dedication to evidence-based practice. I am experienced in prescribing both non-controlled and controlled medications, including antidepressants, stimulants, antipsychotics, and anxiolytics, ensuring a comprehensive approach to your treatment. I also have a strong background in working with geriatric populations, addressing the unique mental health needs of older adults. Whether you are seeking help for the first time or looking for a new provider, I am here to guide you every step of the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Please note that I do not accept EAP programs. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my background shapes everything about how I practice. As a former varsity athlete and Army veteran, I understand discipline, resilience, and perseverance from personal experience. Those years also taught me something equally important: real strength includes knowing when to ask for help. My approach is collaborative and evidence-based. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all treatment, and I take meaningful, unhurried time during our first visit to truly understand your story, your symptoms, and what you hope to achieve. Whether you are navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, sleep difficulties, or other conditions, I will work with you to build a personalized plan that fits your life, not a generic protocol. I integrate medication management with therapeutic techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused approaches, because the best outcomes come from treating the whole person rather than a diagnosis in isolation. That means paying close attention to how your mental health connects with your physical wellbeing, relationships, and daily functioning. I bring extensive experience serving diverse populations, including geriatric and young adult patients, and that breadth informs how I approach every individual I work with. Every session is compassionate and completely judgment-free. My clinical experience spans inpatient hospital, crisis units, outpatient clinics, and telehealth, giving me a broad foundation across the full spectrum of mental health needs. Whether this is your first time seeking care or you have been on this path for years, I will meet you exactly where you are. Your feedback directly shapes how we refine your treatment, and no concern is ever too small to bring up. You deserve thoughtful, expert support that honors your unique journey and moves you steadily toward genuine, lasting wellness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please note that I do not accept EAP programs. Every new patient begins with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment during our first session. I take time to learn about your mental health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, medications, and personal goals. This thorough evaluation allows me to form an accurate clinical picture and build a treatment plan genuinely tailored to you. I encourage you to come ready to share openly—the more I understand about your experience, the better I can support you. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring your progress, assessing how you are responding to any prescribed medications, and making adjustments as needed. I prescribe a full range of psychiatric medications—including antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, stimulants, and sleep aids—always discussing the benefits and potential side effects with you before starting or changing anything. Your input matters at every stage, and treatment decisions are always made collaboratively. While my sessions center on psychiatric evaluation and medication management, I do not simply write prescriptions and move on. I make space in each visit to check in on how you are feeling overall, talk through any challenges you are facing, and offer psychoeducation so you develop a clearer understanding of your condition and treatment. I want you to feel informed and empowered—not just medicated. Whether you are navigating a new diagnosis or looking to refine an existing plan, I bring the same attentiveness and clinical rigor to every session. I also believe in treating the whole person—your mental health does not exist in isolation, and I consider how factors like sleep, stress, and physical health shape your overall wellbeing. Between appointments, I stay accessible, because timely support can make a genuine difference in your outcomes. Above all, I want you to feel like a true partner in your care—supported and understood.

I felt very heard by Young, his staff are all super responsive too.
Attentive and checked in.

I have established a great relationship with Young. I trust his judgement and treatment. He is a great listener, empathetic and my Trusted Advisor when it comes to managing my Anxiety Disorder.
Young Lee has been a really exceptional psychiatrist. You can tell he cares about your treatment plan and is dedicated to you as a patient. He is very responsive and is always sure to help you as soon as possible. Very happy to have him apart of my team!
I feel like ny visits have been going well. Sometimes there can be a bit of a lull in discussion as information is being inputted and reviewed, but the visits have been concise, informative, and overall beneficial
He was very knowledgeable and patient. Even as I got emotional, I could tell he was very sympathetic. Trying medication is very new to me and I was very intimidated. He was very factual about it and I really appreciated it. I was even able to talk about the women’s cycle & hormones and how or if medications could affect them. I felt very heard. It was short and sweet!
I really appreciate Mr. Lee's holistic approach. I went to him for a second opinion when a previous provider was quick to dismiss my concerns. Unlike that previous provider, Mr. Lee performed several assessments and talked with me at length to get to the root of my condition, and ultimately my concerns were validated. On top of being thorough, he's very kind and approachable, and I look forward to working with him on treatment options. It's clear he cares for his patients and is invested in what he does, and I highly recommend him.
He is very attentive and listens to every concern. I enjoy each session because I feel like he addresses all of my issues and doesn’t dismiss one for the other.
