Dr. Yulia Gorokhovsky, PsyD

Psychologist
26 Ct St, Brooklyn, NY
My name is Dr. Yulia Gorokhovsky, a licensed clinical psychologist trained at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University (PsyD). I specialize in working with adults, young adults, and adolescents struggling with anxiety, health anxiety, emotional dysregulation, depression, trauma, stressful life transitions, and related challenges. My approach centers on insight. Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are closely connected, and before we try to change a pattern, we work to understand it: how it developed, what function a behavior serves, and what keeps it going. I strive to create a warm, collaborative environment and to work at a pace that fits what you’re ready for.

Getting to know Dr. Yulia Gorokhovsky

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a flexible, relational, client-centered approach to therapy, integrating DBT-informed work, CBT, ACT, and EMDR. Building a comfortable relationship with your therapist, one based on trust, matters a great deal, and from there we figure out together which tools actually help. Some people need skills, some need space to process, and most need both. Sessions combine exploring the patterns behind what you’re experiencing with practicing concrete strategies for coping, emotion regulation, and communication, with the goal of change that lasts. For trauma, I often use EMDR alongside talk-based work when it fits. I also work with parents, whether that means supporting your child’s treatment or caring for your own well-being. My clients describe my style as warm, collaborative, and funny. I’ve also worked as a supervising psychologist, teaching and supervising postdoctoral fellows and doctoral interns.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before the first session, I will send you standard intake paperwork to complete, which I review ahead of the meeting. The first session is an evaluation to get to know you, what's going on for you, and determine if I might be a good fit for your needs. I meet with clients for 45 minute sessions once a week, with the option for more frequent appointments if needed. Sessions are conducted via confidential HIPAA-compliant video calls. I don’t prescribe medication, but I’m happy to coordinate with a psychiatrist or prescriber if that’s part of your care. Depending on what we're working on, I may suggest strategies to practice at home, and I can offer brief support between sessions when it’s helpful.
