Dr. Zeynep Altun is board-certified in Psychiatry and holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. Dr. Altun graduated cum laude from Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical School. She completed her residency training in Neurology and is Turkish board-certified in clinical Neurology. Subsequently, she moved to the U.S. and finished her Ph.D. in cellular Neuroscience at Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Altun completed her psychiatry residency training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and after, her clinical fellowship in Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program in Columbia University Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Altun has practiced in various settings including Bellevue Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Doctors Faculty Practice Office, Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside Hospitals.
Dr. Altun has held various academic appointments at New York University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry; New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical College Department of Psychiatry; New York State Psychiatric Institute and Mount Sinai School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. She spent most of her professional career supervising and teaching medical students, psychiatry residents and nurse practitioners.
As an adult psychiatrist, Dr. Altun has extensive theoretical knowledge of the nervous system and its disorders and more than 10 years of experience in treating various mental illnesses including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, autism-spectrum and neuropsychiatric disorders, psychiatric emergencies and crisis management as well as cognitive behavioral and supportive psychotherapy. In Columbia Doctors, she collaborated closely with the Lieber Recovery Clinic, treating young adults with various mental illnesses.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

I was disappointed by the overall experience, especially after she made me explain in detail what medications I used in the past and my entire medical history for an hour and diagnosed me with several conditions. She added she can't help me because I socially drink(??) but she will find a specialist from Talkiatry. Haven't heard back and she did not reply to my message I sent for follow up. I was expecting at least a clear answer or guidance or a follow-up giving advice or referring me to one of her colleagues. This is not how someone coming to your office seeking help should be treated. I felt it was a waste of time. Maybe she was having a bad day, who knows but there are more caring doctors elsewhere. The rest of the reviews are all 5 stars and I didn't feel she was a 5 star doctor.

The doctor in question is wonderful and compassionate and very good with people. I recommend her highly. What I do not recommend is the way that they handled the paperwork before and after my appointment . Apparently Talkiatry has some sort of protocol that they have to follow when you transfer from one doctor to another. But they did not follow the protocol. Because they did not follow the protocol I was unable to get my prescription which I need.
I would like to reiterate that the doctor in question is wonderful but the back office needs to take much better care before and after appointments so that patients who need medication are not denied it because they didn’t handle the paperwork properly.
