Dietitian
MI
Zong's parents are Hmong refugees from Laos who came to the United States in 1989 and have limited English. At 15 years old, Zong was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes and hospitalized for a week. Due to his parents' limited English and little knowledge of Western healthcare, Zong took the lead in managing his health. He quickly learned about carbohydrate counting, Type One Diabetes, and the U.S. healthcare system. From this lived experience, he pursued an education and career to become a Registered Dietitian. Zong earned both his Bachelor's in Dietetics and Master's in Food and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He understands the challenges of navigating Western healthcare and aims to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients. He has provided nutrition education and counseling to treat obesity, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal issues, eating disorders, bariatric care, diabetes mellitus, malnutrition, enteral nutrition, parenteral nutrition, and other acute and chronic diseases. Zong has worked in both inpatient hospital and outpatient clinical settings. Additionally, he is bilingual in English and Hmong. Zong's mission is to improve others' health through nutrition, meet patients where they are, and assist them in making healthy lifestyle choices. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hiking, disc golf, biking, exploring the outdoors, and watching football. Go Pack Go!
