Dr. Anders Chan, PsyD

Dr. Anders Chan, PsyD

Psychotherapist
NY
I’m a UCLA-trained clinical psychologist supporting kids, teens, adults, and couples. I work with OCD, anxiety, trauma, substance misuse, neurodiversity, gender health, relationship challenges, and chronic pain. My clinical research focus is on Chinese and Asian mental health. My approach is collaborative and skill-focused: we set clear goals, track progress, find understanding, and build tools you can actually use between sessions, so therapy helps you feel better and become more independent over time. You will feel heard and understood and go at your pace. I currently offer virtual therapy only. Outside the therapy room, I’m a builder + artist (AI, music production, dance, and Chinese brush painting).

What should a new client know about working with you?

People who work with me share that they feel deeply heard and understood, and that our work helps them feel more motivated and capable between sessions. I tailor therapy to your identities, interests, strengths, and challenges, and I aim to create a space where you don’t have to simplify yourself to fit a therapist’s niche. Many clients tell me it’s a relief to work with someone who can support a wide range of concerns over time, so you can bring different parts of your life into one consistent relationship. My approach integrates CBT, ACT, DBT, ERP, EFT-C, and Gottman. I’m culturally responsive and LGBTQ+ affirming, with research foci on Asian mental health, gender health, AI, mind-body, and assessment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with intake to know your goals, culture, and background. I can give my formulation and treatment plan in the first and second sessions. I view us as co-pilots, so we will find a plan and approach that we agree on, and then carry it out. Every session, we can talk about anything you want to while consistently giving space to build towards the goal(s) you shared in the first place. When goals are achieved or stuck, we can rediscuss formulation and treatment plan.
